MetaTexis Software and Services was established in Trier, Germany .

The first version of MetaTexis for Word was released in July 2002. From the very beginning, the program used the technology of COM-add-in extension modules for the MS Word text editor. The program has been constantly expanding and improving over time. In September 2010, version 3 of MetaTexis for Word was released. Currently (June 2015), the latest version released by the developer is 3.205.

In 2006, the first version of MetaTexis Server software appeared. The program has been constantly expanding and improving over time. In October 2010, version 3 of MetaTexis Server was released.

The concept of translation memory (Translation Memory) involves the identification of fragments in the translated text, translations of which are already available in the translation database, and due to this reduction in the amount of work of the translator. Fragments that remain untranslated are transferred further for manual processing to the translator or machine translation system (Machine Translation, MT). At this stage, the translator can select newly translated fragments and enter new pairs of parallel texts in two languages ​​into the database. Such a scheme works best in the case of texts of the same type, where the repeatability of phrases is quite high, that is, in the case of various kinds of instructions for users, technical descriptions, etc.

MetaTexis for Word

MetaTexis for Word is a so-called extension module (COM-add-in) that works in a Microsoft Word text editor for Windows . Access to functions is provided through the menu and toolbar, as well as through the ribbon panel in the Microsoft Word editor itself. A document translated into MetaTexis for Word is converted into a bilingual document (containing both the source text and the translation text). The text is segmented, after which the segments are alternately offered to the translator. When the translation is completed, a final, translated document is created using the cleaning process. The workflow is similar to the old versions of Trados or Wordfast Classic.

MetaTexis Server

MetaTexis Server is a server program that provides access to central translation memories and glossaries of client programs running on computers connected to the server via a local network or the Internet. Thanks to this, two or more translators can use the same translation memories and the same glossaries during the translation.

MetaTexis for Word can work with the following file formats: any file type supported by Microsoft Word , plain text format files, Word documents (DOC / DOCX), Microsoft Excel (XLS / XLSX), PowerPoint (PPT / PPTX), Rich Text Format ( RTF), HTML , XML , TRADOS Word documents, TRADOS TagEditor (TTX), TRADOS Studio (SDLXLIFF), Manual Maker, a number of other formats.

MetaTexis can use five professional database engines for storing and managing translation memory and glossaries.

MetaTexis products have the function of importing and exporting a number of file types for data exchange, in particular, the TMX format for exchanging translation memory with other translation memory systems is supported, as well as the TBX format for exchanging terminology with other automated translation systems.

The program also supports many translation memories and glossaries, the size of which is limited only by the database engine used, database storage capabilities and the processing power of the system on which this software is installed.

MetaTexis for Word has access to MetaTexis Server and other translation memories located on the server , while MetaTexis can extract data from machine translation services that are available on the Internet (including Google Translator and Microsoft Translator ).
