The Battle of Sulzi is a naval battle between Carthage and Rome during the First Punic War .
In 258 BC. er Roman consul Guy Sulpicius Paterkul wanted to raid Africa, but was thrown back by wind to Sardinia , which he began to ravage. Hannibal , the newly appointed naval commander, joined the squadron at Carthage and arrived in Sardinia. Specially sent deserters told the Carthaginians that Sulpicius was going to Africa again [1] .
Hannibal sailed to meet the Romans. He was locked up in some harbor of Sardinia by a fleet of Romans and in the battle he lost a large number of ships. The Carthaginians, having lost the sea battle, landed, threw down the ships and took refuge in the city of Sulzi in southwestern Sardinia. The Carthaginian warriors beat Hannibal with stones and crucified him [2] .
