San Andrés de Cuerquia ( Spanish: San Andrés de Cuerquia ) is a city and municipality in northern Colombia , in the Antioquia department. It is part of the North Antioquia subregion .

Content
History
Before the arrival of the Spaniards, the territory of the municipality was inhabited by representatives of the Indian tribe es: Nutabes . The settlement from which the city later grew was founded in 1761 . The municipality of San Andrés de Cuerca was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1856 .
Geographical position
The city is located in the northern part of the department, in the highlands of Central Cordillera , at a distance of approximately 68 kilometers north-northwest (NNW) from Medellin , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 2191 meters above sea level [1] .
The municipality of San Andres de Cuercia borders in the northwest with the municipality of Toledo , in the northeast and east with the municipality of Jarumal , in the south with the municipalities of Santa Rosa de Osos , San Jose de la Montagna and Liborin , in the west - with the municipality of Sabanalarga . The area of the municipality is 177 km² [2] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2012 was 6556 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men accounted for 51% of the population of San Andres de Cuercia, women - respectively 49%. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 94.8% of the city's population; Blacks , mulattoes and Raisals - 5.1%, Indians - 0.1% [4] . The literacy rate among people over 15 years old was 88.6%.
Economics
The basis of the economy of San Andres de Cuercia is agricultural production .
61.3% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 28% are service enterprises, 5.3% are industrial enterprises, 5.4% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
