History
The city of Fairbanks was founded at the beginning of the 20th century in connection with the Gold Rush in Alaska and is named after the then Senator from Indiana Charles Warren Fairbanks , who later became Vice President of the United States. The first gold deposits were discovered by an American of Italian descent - Felix Pedro in 1902 [3] .
During World War II , the route of distillation of aircraft from the USA to the USSR passed through the city. In the city, American planes supplied by Lend-Lease were received by the Soviet mission, and then the pilots of the Soviet Union drove them along the Alsib highway to the eastern front [4] .
