Football career
Leicester City
Alan Martin Smith began his career at the small club Elvurch from Worcestershire. In June 1982, he signed a professional contract with Leicester City , which at that time was playing in the Second Division . In the first season for the club, he scored 13 goals, playing in tandem with Gary Lineker . At the end of the season, the " fox " won a ticket to the First Division . In total, Smith spent five seasons at Leicester, scoring 84 goals in 217 matches. He joined the London Arsenal in 1987.
Arsenal
During Smith’s stay with the Gunners , the team won all the most important domestic trophies (two championships, the FA Cup and the Football League Cup ), as well as the UEFA Cup Winners Cup . Smith is the author of the first goal in the match against Liverpool at Anfield in May 1989 - a victory in this match with a 2-0 score brought Arsenal a championship. In addition, he scored the only goal in the winning final of the 1993/94 Cup Cup against Parma . Smith became Arsenal's top scorer for four consecutive seasons. In the 1988/89 season, he scored 23 goals in the championship, becoming his top scorer.
Smith received only one yellow card throughout his career. He left professional football in July 1995. Several clubs, including Watford , have expressed interest in signing Smith on the eve of his announcement of leaving the game.
Over eight seasons at Highbury , Smith scored a total of 115 goals, an average of over 14 goals per season. He scored the first goal in the championship for the club on August 29, 1987, when he scored a hat-trick against Portsmouth . The last goal was the ball scored on December 12, 1994 in the match against Manchester City at Main Road . In addition to his winning goal in the 1994 Cup Cup finals, Smith is also known for his hat-trick against Manchester United in the First Division match on May 6, 1991.
Commentator Career
Smith is currently a commentator and an expert on Sky Sports . In 2011, he commented on the UEFA Champions League final together with Martin Tyler. On June 30, 2011, EA Sports announced that Smith would replace Andy Gray as Martin Tyler's commentary partner for FIFA 12 . This partnership continued into all other games in the series until FIFA 17 .

Smith is married to his childhood sweetheart, Penny. They have two daughters: Jesse and Emily.
