Biography

Engaged in the fight with the age of seven. [3]

In 1968 he made his debut in the Nordic Championship (Nordic Championship) , where he took second place, the next year became the champion and later won three more titles in a row, from 1971 to 1973 and another in 1976. In 1970 he spoke at the European Championship, but unsuccessfully.

In 1973 he spoke at the European Championship and remained only the sixth. In 1974 he made his debut at the World Championships, but did not win anything. In 1975, he won the bronze medal at the World Championships. Member of the VII Games of the peoples of the USSR in 1979.

At the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, he fought in the category up to 52 kilograms (the lightest weight ). Drop out of the tournament took place as the accumulation of penalty points. Penalty points were not accrued for a clear victory, 0.5 penalty points were awarded for victory for a clear advantage, 1 penalty point for victory on points, 2 or 2.5 penalty points for a draw, 3 points for a defeat on points, 3 , 5 points, pure defeat - 4 points. 1976 and 1977 became the most successful in an athlete's career: in 1976 he won the Nordic Championship and became an Olympic champion, in 1977 became a world and European champion. In 1977, he was named athlete of the year in Finland. In 1978, the World Cup was left without medals.

At the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, he fought in the category up to 62 kilograms (the lightest weight ). The rules basically remained the same, the title was contested by 13 people. After losing two bouts of three, Pertti Yukkola was eliminated from the tournament.

In 1981 he added the bronze medal of the World Championship to his awards.

After an active wrestling career, he switched to coaching, in 1990-1991 he was the head coach of the Finnish national team.

In 2015, he was awarded a personal (incomplete) pension (662 euros per month) from the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland [4] .
