Biography
Raffaele Aurini was born on March 2, 1910 in Teramo, in the Kingdom of Italy. His whole life was spent in his native city and is associated with its history and traditions.
Librarian and director of the Provincial Library Melkkiera Delfiko in Teramo, the international scientific community, he became known after the publication of his fundamental work "Bibliographic Dictionary of the People of Abruzzo", published in five volumes. It contains information about all the prominent personalities in the history of Abruzzo . Today this work is the most important source on the history of the region.
Raffaele Aurini also participated in the preparatory work for the publication of the "Italian Biographical Dictionary", published by the Italian Encyclopedic Institute .
He reorganized and reopened the Vincenzo Bindi Municipal Library in Giulianova, of which he remained director until his death. Raffaele Aurini oversaw the reorganization of the Library of the Chamber of Commerce of Teramo and contributed to improving the work of the libraries of the University of Teramo and the municipality of Roseto degli Abruzzi .
Collaborated with members of the National History Group in Abruzzo. In 1962 and 1973 he was the laureate of the cultural award established by the Italian government. In 1969, he became one of the founders of the modern Abruzzi Institute of Historical Research.
In 1991 and 1994, streets in Teramo, near Villa Mosca and in Santa Lucia, in the municipality of Roseto degli Abruzzi, were named after Raffaele Aurini. A memorial plaque was installed at the Provincial Library of Melccore Delfico to commemorate the activities of its director.
Raffaele Aurini died in Teramo on February 27, 1974.
