Excerpt from the surviving letter of Ergash Hamraev from the front to the wife of Anastasia Tarasich from 09.25.1941:
“The photo came (and Alika). You do not offend children. And there’s nothing to be mad at them. Better mad at Hitler’s bastard and work harder! As for the fees for the script “Horsemen” - I am not interested in this question. These days I, and generally military people. I forgot the price of the ruble. The price of the lives of our children, wives, fathers and mothers, as well as honest friends, is worth more than any money. When we defeat money, gold and glory will be with us. In this matter, I am grateful to Markina (who gave her part of the fee to you, the wife of the front-line soldier). I told many commanders about her act, and they also thank her from the bottom of my heart. Since there are such people around you in the rear, we can calmly fight and, if necessary, also die calmly! ”
