Biography
She was born in the family of Major-General Vladimir Vikentyevich Svyatlovsky. A graduate of the Smolny Institute .
In the period from 1872 to 1876 she studied singing at the Moscow Conservatory with A. Alexandrova-Kochetova . She was taught opera singing by N. and A. Rubinstein and P. I. Tchaikovsky . Tchaikovsky wrote about her: “The voice of Mrs. Svyatlovskaya is strong enough, fresh and beautiful. She phrases with taste, sings purely, truly ... ". Tchaikovsky dedicated the lullaby to the singer; he also offered her the premiere performance of his romance “Evening” op. 27 No. 4, December 17 1876 in Moscow.
Eight years served on the Moscow Imperial Stage, performing the main contraltny parties. In the period 1875–87 was a soloist of the Bolshoi Theater . Debut in the parties Vanya - "Life for the Tsar" M. Glinka and the party Rogneda - "Rogneda". In subsequent years, she toured in Leipzig, Berlin, Weimar, Vienna, Prague, Paris, and sang in London for several years (1890s).
Svetlovskaya had an even, strong and beautiful voice, possessing a wide range (two and a half octaves). Criticism noted her artistic taste and stage talent.
From 1885 to 1887 she performed solo concerts in Kiev in the Hall of the Nobiliary Assembly. In 1898 she took part in a concert of Ukrainian music in Moscow. With great skill she performed Ukrainian folk songs.
In 1899-1901 gave annual concerts in the Small Hall of the Moscow Noble Assembly, toured with concerts in Russia. Performed solo parts in the cantatas of JS Bach, “Stabat mater” J. Pergolesi (1876), oratorio “Legend of sv. Elizabeth "F. Liszt (1883), the cantata" Moscow "by P. Tchaikovsky, the 9th symphony of L. Beethoven (in Moscow - 1876, 1884, 1886, in St. Petersburg - 1885), in" The Wandering of the Rose "by R. Schumann (1886 ).
In the chamber repertoire of the singer were works by G. Pergolesi, G. Handel. J. Rossini, F. Schubert, R. Schumann. S. Gounod, C. Saint-Saens, M. Glinka, M. Mussorgsky, A. Borodin, M. Balakirev, A. Rubinstein, P. Tchaikovsky (the composer dedicated S. “Lullaby”), S Rachmaninoff, G. Konus .
In 1904 she organized her own opera troupe in Moscow.
Since 1913, she has been teaching in Moscow, being one of the best vocal teachers in Russia. Among her students are Naumova, Yukhova-Semenova, E. Yanovskaya.
Being a widely educated person, she corresponded with N. Rimsky-Korsakov , B. Safonov , E. Lavrovskaya , E. Napravnik , A. Grechaninov , A. Koreshchenko , M. Ermolova .
The first performer of the parties: Esther (" Uriel Acosta "), Solokhi (" Cherevichki "), Katerina ("Taras Bulba" V. Kashperova); in Kharkiv - Barbarians ("Thunderstorm"); in the Bolshoi Theater - the Angel (“The Demon” by A. Rubinstein), Xenia (“Nizhny Novgorod”), Maddalena (“Rigoletto”; in Russian).
She performed on the English stage - Nannies (“Eugene Onegin”, March 5, 1892, London, “New-Olimpic”).
