Feliz navidad

“ Feliz Navidad ” (from Spanish - “Merry Christmas”) is a Christmas song written in 1970 by Puerto Rican singer Jose Feliciano [2] . One of the classical musical symbols of Catholic Christmas and New Year in the USA (along with “ Jingle Bells ”) and Latin American countries, which is popular in the rest of the world.

Basic Information

First recorded and published in 1970 by the first track as part of “ José Feliciano Christmas Album ” (later also renamed “ Feliz Navidad ”) and the single together in Christmas song .

The text of the song is a repetition of traditional Christmas and New Year greetings in Spanish ( Spanish: “Feliz Navidad, Prospero Año y Felicidad” , letters. “Merry Christmas, successful year and happiness” ) and in English ( English “I wanna wish you a merry Christmas from the bottom of my heart ” , letter.“ I want to wish you a merry Christmas with all my heart ” ).

Rice.

A parody based on stereotypes about Latin American immigrants and portraying them as drunkards, criminals and peddlers of disease, caused outrage in a number of communities and the media. On December 23, 2009, the following statement was published on the official website of the author of the original Christmas song, Jose Feliciano (generally calmly related to the ironic parody of his songs):

Jose and his team are outraged by this parody that uses the theme of illegal immigration to the United States. “This song has always been a bridge between two cultures dear to me and should not be used as a carrier of political platforms, racism and hatred. This is disgusting, and I would like to end this as soon as possible in relation to myself and my song. ”

Upon hearing a parody regarding the heated topic of the illegal immigration situation in America, Jose and his Team are revolted beyond words. "This song has always been a bridge to the cultures that are so dear to me, never as a vehicle for a political platform of racism and hate. It's disgusting and my only wish that my song and I are distanced from the whole affair as soon as possible. " [32]

Soon the parody was removed from the Human Events website (having managed, however, to spread on the Internet), and the editor of the publication, Jed Babbin, apologized to the musician through the Associated Press [7] [33] .
