Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the settlement area is 359.0 km², of which land is 349.8 km² and the water surface is 9.3 km². Located on the high bank of the river Tolovana.
The name of the locality is the anglicized form of the word Menh Ti of the Tanan language, which is translated “among the lakes”. The village was moved to its present location in 1969 due to frequent floods. The place where the village was located before is known today as the “Old Minto”.
Population
According to the 2000 census, the population of the statistically isolated area was 258 people [1] . Racial composition: Native Americans - 91.86%; whites - 7.75%; representatives of two or more races - 0.39%. The proportion of persons under the age of 18 is 38.8%; persons older than 65 - 9.7%. The average age of the population is 25 years. For every 100 females there are 130 males; for every 113.2 women over the age of 18, 129 men.
Of the 74 households, 39.2% raised children under the age of 18, 33.8% were married couples living together, 21.6% were women without husbands, 27.0% had no family. At the time of the census, 25.7% of the total number of households lived on their own, while 9.5% were single elderly people aged 65 and over. The average household size is 3.49, and the average family size is 4.15.
The average income for a joint farm is $ 21,250; average family income is $ 37,500.
