Design History

The development of the SMDM self-transporting mine was carried out by the Marine Underwater Weapon-Hydropribor Concern .

This mine is in service with the Russian Navy and is used to defend or block areas with depths of up to 120 meters.

Design

The SMDM self-transporting sea bottom mine consists of 4 compartments:

  1. Combat charging compartment;
  2. Instrumentation module;
  3. Reservoir part;
  4. Aft.

The charging compartment is equipped with a 500 kg explosive charge.

Principle of Operation

The SMDM self-transporting sea ​​mine is an alloy of a thermal torpedo with a bottom mine as a warhead , which is fired from a torpedo tube of a submarine or from a surface ship. After firing and passing the distance, a self-transporting sea mine lies on the ground in a predetermined area inaccessible to submarines with a developed anti - aircraft defense system and at the required depth.
