Hockey at the Winter Universiade 2013

The hockey tournament for the Winter Universiade 2013 was held from December 10 to 21 in the Italian communes of Cavalese , Canazei and Pergine-Valsugan . Hockey players played the Universiade awards for the 22nd time in history, and hockey players - the third.

The competition ended triumphantly for Canada , which won gold medals in the men's and women's tournament. The men's Canadian team won gold medals, defeating the Kazakhstan national team in the final with a score of 6: 2 [1] . The women's Canadian team won the “gold”, having beaten the Russian team in the final with a score of 5: 0 [2] . The Russian team won bronze medals for men, and the United States team won third place for women.

Men

The format of the tournament has not changed compared to the 2011 Universiade . The draw again consisted of 34 matches, 18 of which were held in the preliminary round and 14 in the playoffs. Initially, twelve teams were divided into three groups of four teams. Matches in the preliminary round are held on a round-robin system , according to the results of which the first two teams in each group, as well as the two best teams from the third place, reach the quarter-finals. The remaining four teams get into the tournament distribution of seats from 9 to 12.

In the preliminary round, only the national teams of Kazakhstan and Russia did not lose a single point. On the contrary, the UK team was the only team that did not score at least one point.

All quarter-final matches ended with confident victories of the national teams, taking a higher place in the seeding of the playoffs. The only exception was the US team, which defeated the Universiade - Italians with a score of 5: 0. Semifinals were held in a more stubborn fight. The Canadian team defeated the Russian team with a score of 2: 1. The national team of Kazakhstan defeated the Americans - 5: 1.

In the final, the Canadian team won gold medals, defeating the national team of Kazakhstan with a score of 6: 2 [1] . The Russian team won the bronze medal, winning the USA national team - 6: 2 in the match for third place [4] .

The best scorer was the player of the national team of Kazakhstan Yevgeny Rymarev , who scored 14 (7 + 7) points in six matches [5] . The highest percentage of reflected shots was demonstrated by the goalkeeper of the Russian team Yuri Lavretsky - 96.15.

Women

The format of the tournament has not changed compared to the 2011 Universiade . The draw again consisted of 20 matches, 15 of which took place in the preliminary round and 5 in the playoffs. Six national teams were divided into one group, where they were supposed to hold games among themselves in a circular system . The four best teams reached the semifinals, and the two worst teams competed in fifth place.

In the preliminary round, the Canadian team played the best, winning a landslide victory in all matches. The national teams of Russia , the USA and Japan , who took 2-4 places, scored the same number of points - 9. To determine the places of these teams, the difference between the goals scored and the goals was conceded. The national teams of Spain and the UK became the worst in the group stage.

Canadian Gabriella Davidson was the top scorer, scoring 22 (13 + 9) points in seven matches. The best goalkeeper was the Canadian national team player Kelly Campbell , who never missed in her four matches.
