Vilnius усinios ( Vilnius žinios [1] , lit. Vilniaus žinios , Vilnius News) is the first liberal Lithuanian daily newspaper.

It appeared in Vilna from December 10 ( 23 ), 1904 to April 7 ( 21 ), 1907, and from June 20 ( July 3 ) to March 4 ( 17 ), 1909 . Editors-publishers brothers Jonas Vileyshis and Pyatras Vileyshis . Actual editors Jonas Kriaučiūnas , Kazis Puida , P. Klimaitis. The editorial staff also included the linguist Jonas Jablonskis and the editor of the magazine “ Warpas ” Povilas Viskinskis .
The contents were news from St. Petersburg , Moscow , correspondence from cities and towns of Lithuania, notes on the life of Lithuanians in the USA, Prussia, Latvia, Russia, articles on socio-political and cultural themes. Fiction, translations of fiction, and literary criticism were published.
The newspaper collaborated with the writer Jonas Biliunas , as well as Antanas Smetona , Ludas Gira , Juozas Tumas-Vaižgantas and other prominent public and political figures, writers and publicists. The first issue was published in a circulation of 6,000 copies. For the first half of 1905, 5,613 readers from Vilna , Kovna , Suwalki , the Grodno province , Siberia , Latvia , Poland , Finland , and the United States subscribed. However, in Vilna sold approx. 150 copies.
On the building in Vilnius (along the former Vilnius street, in Soviet times, Gyros, now Vilnius , Vilniaus g. 39 ), where the first issue of the newspaper was published, a memorial table with an inscription in Lithuanian is installed.
Vilniaus žinios (21st Century)
A weekly newspaper these days is published with the same name. The publisher is Vilniaus žinios Closed Joint-Stock Company, part of the Rubicon group concern. Editor Rasa Valatkeviciute.
