MSM is a marine offshore reactive-pop-up broadband mine for active covert and defensive mine deployments from 533-mm submarine torpedo tubes or from surface ships .

Reactive pop-up mines are used in areas of naval bases, narrownesses and straits for their protection or blockade. Mines of this type are designed to destroy submarines and surface ships ( vessels ) of any displacement . [one]

Design History

The development of the MSM mine was carried out by the Marine Underwater Weapons-Hydropribor Concern .

This mine is in service with the Russian Navy and is used to protect or block the shelf zone with depths of up to 600 meters and coastal communications .

Design

The MSHM offshore mine is equipped with a rocket engine, an explosive charge , a combined fuse and an acoustic target detection system that responds to the acoustic field of a ship .

Principle of Operation

The MSM mine is placed from a torpedo tube of a submarine or from surface ships , like an anchor mine in a bottom position vertically to a depth of 600 meters with a recess from the surface of 60-300 meters. When the acoustic system detects a surface ship or submarine that has fallen into the broadband area of the surveillance system, a command is issued to start the jet engine and launch the submarine rocket. High speed and short attack time exclude the possibility of evading the target from an underwater rocket. If the mine gets into the middle zone of the target ship , then a non-contact fuse is triggered and the power supply circuit fuses with the undermining of the warhead of the mine . If the mine hits any other area of the target ship , then its detonation comes from a contact fuse.

Modifications

  • MSHM isp.1 - basic model
  • MSHM isp.2 - a modern modification.
