Biography

Born in 1748 , “from the lieutenant colonel of the Don Children’s Army”. Father - Colonel Evdokim Timofeevich Grekov. Brother of Alexei Evdokimovich and Stepan Evdokimovich .

He entered the active service as a 13-year-old Cossack. He received baptism of fire in the North Caucasus , performing service from 1764 to 1766 in the Kizlyar fortress. At the border he participated in skirmishes with the highlanders. Here he was appointed regimental Yesaul .

Member of the Russian-Turkish war of 1769-1774 . In the position of Esaul of the Don Cossack Regiments, he distinguished himself near the Akkerman fortress - for this battle he was awarded a gold medal by order of Empress Catherine II . In the same war he earned the rank of Don Colonel (in January 1771 ). Then he fought against the Crimean Khanate . Member of the capture of Perekop and Feodosia .

In 1783-1786, Colonel Dmitry Grekov participated in campaigns in the Kuban, where he fought with the detachments of the Nogai horde and the Circassians. In 1786 he was captured by the Highlanders, in which he stayed for ten months and was bought for his own money.

During the Russian-Turkish war of 1787-1791, the Greeks fought in the Northern Black Sea region , in the Crimea and the Caucasus . He distinguished himself in the assault on the Ochakov fortress. He was awarded the Golden Cross "For Ochakov", which was worn on the St. George ribbon.

During the Polish campaign of 1794, Grekov was part of the Suvorov troops operating against the Polish Confederates. In the same year he was promoted to army colonel .

September 7, 1798 Dmitry Evdokimovich Grekov became major general . He received the rank of general for past services and for command of the Cossack regiments in peacetime.

In 1798 he was appointed head of the Derbent Kalmyk ulus - he was responsible for the calmness among the nomads and the timeliness of putting a certain number of equestrian soldiers on a campaign.

In 1800, Grekov resigned - at this time, at the behest of Emperor Paul I , a considerable part of the Don generals were disgraced.

The Napoleonic invasion caught the Cossack general on the Don, where Grekov served as head of the Ust-Medveditsky district . [1] He was one of the main organizers of the General Don Militia. 64-year-old Grekov arrived at Tarutino camp, where the Main Field Army, Field Marshal M.I. During the persecution of the retreating French, Major General Grekov was entrusted with a separate detachment of irregular cavalry, consisting of five Don Cossack regiments. Most often, he acted as part of the ataman Mikhail I. Platov’s flying corps, chasing the retreating enemy along the Old Smolensk Road. With his donors Dmitry Evdokimovich distinguished himself in battles at the Kolotsky Monastery, at the Solovyov crossing, Dukhovschina, Smolensk, Krasnoye and on the banks of the Berezina.

Major General Grekov was also able to participate in the Overseas Campaign of the Russian Army in 1813 . After that, he left the army by age and returned to the Don, where he died in 1820.
