Abu 'Abdullah Badruddin Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Kinani al-Hamawi , better known as Badruddin ibn Jama'a ( Arabic: بدر الدين ابن جماعة ; 1241 , Hama - 1333 , Cairo , Mamluk Sultanate ) - Islamic theologian, jurist of the Shafiite madhhab , asharit . Biography

His full name is Abu 'Abdullah Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn Sa'dullah ibn Jama'a ibn' Ali ibn Jama'a ibn Hazm ibn Sahr al-Kinani al-Hamawi al-Shafi'i. Muhammad ibn Jamaa was born in 1241 in the city of Hama in Syria [4] [5] . His family came from the Kinanata al-Adnaniyya tribe [6] . Member of the famous clan of Banu Jamaa [7] . He grew up in an Arab family known for knowledge and righteousness [8] . His father and brothers were muhaddis , scholars and god-fearing people. He had a son who became a famous scientist - Izzuddin ibn Jama'a .

In search of knowledge, Badruddin ibn Jamaa visited Damascus , Jerusalem , Cairo , Alexandria , Kus. He studied fiqh , usul al-fiqh , tafsir , grammar and other Islamic sciences. He received his first ijaz at the age of 7 [9] .

Badruddin ibn Jamaa was the judge ( cadiy ) in Jerusalem (from 1288), Egypt (from 1291) and Levant (from 1293 to 1303). During this period, the Shafi'i madhhab was recognized at the state level [7] . He preached at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, the Cairo Al-Azhar , and the Damascus Umayyad Mosque . Badruddin ibn Jamaa taught various Islamic sciences and taught in dozens of Levant (Shama) and Egypt madrassas .

Badruddin ibn Jamaa died in 1333 at the age of 92 [10] .

Of his many works, the most famous is the exposition of the rules governing the (political) organization of the Muslim community. His work is an important example of a highly developed genre of works by medieval Muslim jurists, combining the fields of law and political theory [7] .

  • Tahrir al-ahkam fi tadbir al-Islam ( Arabic. تحرير الأحكام في تدبير أهل الإسلام - "Consolidated Rules for the Governance of the Islamic Nation") - in this work, Ibn Jamaa presents the thesis that the most important task of governance is to ensure peace and order . He calls for blurring the distinction between the caliph and the sultan and come to the fulfillment by the sultan of the former duties of the caliph. With this work, Ibn Jamaa laid the theoretical foundation for the emerging Mamluk sultanate [15] .
