Witold Novacki (July 20, 1911, Zakševo, Greater Poland Voivodeship - August 23, 1986, Warsaw ) - a scientist in the field of structural mechanics and in the theory of elasticity and thermoelasticity . Professor of Gdansk University of Technology, Warsaw University and Warsaw University of Technology. President of the Academy of Sciences of Poland (1978-1980).

Biography
He graduated from the state gymnasium of the city of Naklo nad Notecia .
During the Second World War he was in a prisoner of war camp in Dobegnev , where he organized polytechnic courses.
He received his doctorate from the Technical University of Warsaw in September 1945. On September 15, 1945, he headed the Faculty of Materials Resistance and Structural Analysis, and also became vice dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Gdansk. In 1952 he moved to Warsaw, where he participated in the organization of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) as the scientific secretary of the section of technical sciences (IV). Corresponding Member of PAN (1952), Academician (1956). From 1969 to 1977, Vice President, from 1978 to 1980 - President of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
In 1971, he was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of the Technical University of Gdansk [2] , in 1979 the title of Honorary Doctor of the University of Technology, and in 1981 the title of Honorary Doctor of the University of Lodz and Warsaw University. He was a member of the Royal Society and the USSR Academy of Sciences.
July 21, 1977 awarded the Order of Builders of People's Poland .
He was buried in the Old Powzki cemetery in Warsaw.
Scientific Interests
He dealt with issues of statics and dynamics, especially in the theory of elasticity and viscoelasticity laid down by the works of M. Huber .
He wrote the first monograph in the world literature on the theory of coupled thermoelasticity.
