Description
The total body length is 12-15 cm.
These geckos have thin legs, smooth at the base of the fingers. Each of the fingers ends with a greatly expanded suction cup-plate with fan-shaped fingers and brushes. The ability of such plates to hold the body of an animal in place is extremely high. It is noticed that after a long jump the animal, as if glued, remains where it fell, whether it is the ceiling of the room, window glass or the polished cabinet door.
Females are slightly smaller than males. The latter have anterior anal pores, which are absent in females.
Distribution
Lives in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Israel, Iraq.
Lifestyle
These lizards love dry places with relatively high temperatures ranging from 30 to 34 ° C. At the same time, these geckos are very resistant to cold, sometimes out in the snow. Active at night. It feeds on insects and small arthropods. This is a good climber. Hiding among stones and crevices.
In case of danger, the gecko rises high on outstretched legs, arches its back, lowers its head and, turning to meet the enemy, tries to quickly bite, accompanying all this with a short squeak. At the same time, he deeply retracts his eyes, while wrinkling strongly on the skin on his head.
Mating begins with the arrival of spring, after a period of hibernation of geckos. Females lay 2 eggs, make 4-5 clutches from the end of spring. After 2-4 weeks, young geckos appear.
