Kostyuk, Grigory Alexandrovich

Grigory Kostiuk ( Ukrainian Grigory Kostyuk , 1902 - 2002 ) - Ukrainian literary critic, critic, memoirist, political figure. Winner of the Vladimir Vinnichenko Prize, long-time chairman of the UE “Slovo”, full member of the UBAS and NTSH , member of NSPU Member of the International PEN Club.

Biography

Secondary education in Kamenetz-Podolsk . In 1929 he graduated from the Kiev Institute of National Education , then graduate school of the Shevchenko Institute in Kharkov , defended his thesis.

He taught the history of Ukrainian literature at the Kharkov Pedagogical Institute of Vocational Education, from the beginning of 1934 - at the Lugansk Institute of Public Education .

In November 1934, he was dismissed for nationalist manifestations in lectures and program distortions. November 25, 1935 arrested in Kiev. By Decree of the Special Meeting of the NKVD of July 3, 1936, he was exiled for 5 years to a concentration camp in Vorkuta .

From December 1940 to July 1944, he lived and worked (mostly not by specialty) in Slavyansk , Kiev, Lviv . In the middle of 1943, at the invitation of his friend L. Forostovsky, he took the position of head of the administration of the Vladimirsky district of Kiev. [2] He was friends and collaborated with A. Lyubchenko , which he recalled in his memoirs.

In July 1944 he emigrated to the West. In emigration he was a co-founder and for some time the leader of the Ukrainian Revolutionary Democratic Party, after its split he joined the left wing.

Until 1951 - in the camps for " displaced persons " in Germany . In February 1952 he left for the USA.

October 23, 1992 in Boryshkivtsi hosted an evening dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Kostyuk, at which his son, Theodor Kostiuk, Doctor of Physical and Astronomical Sciences, spoke.

Among the publications in which Kostyuk was the compiler and author of the articles are the first two volumes of the Diary, V. Vinnichenko , the five-volume collection of M. Khvylevyi (1978-1986), the works of M. Kulish (1955), P. Filipovich , M. Drei- Khmara and others.

He was buried in the Ukrainian Orthodox cemetery in South Bound Brook , New Jersey .
