Biography

Born in a teacher’s family in the village of Bolshoi Pargolovo, childhood passed in Zmeinogorsk . Grandson of literary critic Alexander Mikhailovich Skabichevsky . After graduating from school in 1924 he worked as a school teacher, in 1925 he entered the pedagogical faculty of Irkutsk University .

In 1929, he published his first article in the Russian Hydrobiological Journal, which was dedicated to the Baikal diatom Melosira baicalensis . He graduated from the university in 1929, after which he taught first in Rubtsovsk , then in Barnaul .

In 1932, he participated in the North Baikal expedition of the Irkutsk Biological and Geographical Research Institute. Since 1932, he worked as a junior researcher at this institute, and also worked as an assistant in the Department of General Biology of the Irkutsk Medical Institute.

In 1936 he defended his thesis in Irkutsk, in 1946 in Moscow he received a doctorate in biological sciences. Since 1938 A.P. Skabichevsky headed the Department of Biology of the Omsk Medical Institute .

Since 1968 he worked in the Central Siberian Botanical Garden of the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR as a consultant.

He died in Novosibirsk on May 5, 1990 .
