Further development Albatros DV was adopted in October 1917 fighter D.Va.

Albatros DV is a descendant of the very successful single scout Albatros D.III . Albatros DV retained the scheme of a half-plane (the lower wing has a smaller chord than the upper. This gave greater maneuverability, due to a decrease in the strength of the structure). In DV, the fuselage was oval in cross section (D III had flat sides), thus the attachment of the lower wing to the fuselage changed. The lower wings were not attached directly to the fuselage, but with the help of special bars that leveled the curvature of the fuselage at the attachment point. This mount was unsuccessful and subsequently became the Achilles heel of the machine. When the plane entered a steep dive, the loads forced the wing to bend (this is a feature of one and a half planes), deformations were transferred to the bars and they collapsed, which led to the crash and death of the pilots. No solution to this problem was found, and as a result, the pilots lost much to the enemy, who could escape by diving.

In addition, the flight characteristics of the DV almost did not differ from the flight characteristics of the D III, which he had to replace. Nevertheless, the German Air Force needed aircraft and until November 1918 continued to use an enhanced version of the DV - D.Va.
