Hidayat Inayat Khan ( Urdu عنایت خان کمبوہ , English; Hidayat Inayat Khan ; August 6, 1917 , London - September 12, 2016 , Munich ) - composer, conductor and secretary of the International Sufi Movement [3] . The son of the Indian musician and philosopher Hazrat Inayat Khan . Three brothers and sisters: Nurunissa Inayat Khan , Vilayat Inayat Khan and Harunissa Inayat Khan.

Biography

Since 1922, he lived with his family in France, in Suren , a suburb of Paris. He studied traditional Indian music from his father. He began his Western musical education in Paris [4] in 1932 at the L'Ecole Normale de Musique, in the violin class of Bernard Sinsheimer ; according to the composition class of Nadi Boulanger ; and the orchestration class with Diran Aleksanyan . Later, he attended chamber music courses given by participants in the Hungarian string quartet Jeno Lenera in Paris.

In 1942, Hidayat Inayat Khan became a professor of music at the Musical Lyceum de Dieffeit in France. After the Second World War, he worked as a violinist in the symphony orchestra of Haarlem (Netherlands). He graduated from conducting courses by the orchestra of the Dutch conductor Thun Verhei. In 1952, Hidayat Inayat-Khan conducted the 's-Hertogenbosch orchestra and made his debut as a composer on the Dutch radio “Fa Poem” for orchestra and piano. In 1952 he founded his first chamber music orchestra.

In subsequent years, several performances of Hidayat Inayat Khan's music took place. On May 4, 1957, his Zikar Symphony was performed in the Pleyel Hall in Paris, conductor Georges Pretre . November 21, 1969 on the occasion of the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi was performed by his Gandhi Symphony [5] in a special concert organized by UNESCO in the Netherlands. In 1971, this symphony was performed in the USA for the world premiere at the Voice of America radio station.

October 15, 1971, Virginia Symphonic Poem premiered in honor of the Bicentennial of America.

In 1972, on the Bavarian Radio in the program “Portrait of the Composer”, the suite “La Monotonia” was performed. Post Symphony was played in 1977.

In Munich on February 15 and 16, 2002, the premiere performance of the "Symphonic Suite" by the Munich Symphony Orchestra was conducted by Andreas Pascal Heinzmann.

On May 5, 2007, the Royal Legend (op. 46) premiered in Munich. Zorneding-Baldham Orchestra.

Khidayyat Inayat-Khan is the author of numerous works among them concerts of symphony orchestras, quartets, choral and piano works. Many of his compositions are now available on CD.

He is one of the founders of the European Union of Composers, and his music is often performed internationally.

The music of Khidayyat Inayat Khan is in many ways an attempt to combine Eastern monophony and Western polyphony; a combination of harmonic structures characteristic of Western music and their combination with the traditions of Indian music.

Philosophy

In the period from 1988 to the present, he wrote several books on the philosophy of yoga, Sufism, as well as several books with memories.

In 1988, Hidayat Inayat Khan is the Secretary of the International Sufi Movement founded by his father Hazrat Inayat Khan [6] . In the last years of his life he lived in Europe: Munich, Haarlem and Suren. He continued to travel, giving classes and lectures on philosophy, creativity and Sufism.
