History
With the construction of the Tomsk branch at the site of the Tomsk-I station, the Mezheninovka passenger platform was built. Over time, most passengers began to prefer this platform to Tomsk station, so in 1909 the Tomsk City Council decided to rename Mezheninovka station to Tomsk-I station, and Tomsk station to Tomsk-II station. The name of Nikolai Mezheninov was later fixed in the name of the junction located on the 38th kilometer of the Tomsk branch ( Mezheninovka station ). Soon, the construction of the stone building of the Tomsk-1 station began according to the project of the architect J. Ya. Rodyukov. The consecration of the first stage of the station (central part and south wing) took place on January 29, 1917. The completion of the northern wing dragged on until the 1960s. [one]
Station
The station building was expanded and rebuilt several times. The latest reconstruction project was developed by the Sibzheldorproject Institute. Construction work began in October 2001 , the reconstruction of the station was completed in 2004 to the 400th anniversary of Tomsk [2] .
The station is a spacious two-story symmetrical building. In the central part of the first floor there are two cash rooms: the main one, with windows to the station square and a service center with windows to the platform. In the service center, you could buy a ticket out of turn thanks to an additional commission, book a hotel, taxi and get other services. With the proliferation of ticket sales through the Internet, the service center has lost its relevance and is used as an increased comfort waiting room. There are ticket offices and a waiting room for commuter trains in the left wing; from the moment of opening after reconstruction until 2011, there was a Russian restaurant in the right wing, which, due to the specifics of passenger traffic, was not in demand at the station and closed. Since 2016, ticket offices and a waiting room for the Transservice bus station, organized by carriers, owners of fixed-route taxis, and dissatisfied with the policies of the Tomskavtotrans bus station, have opened in empty spaces.
On the second floor of the station, a waiting room and relaxation rooms are organized. Access from the first to the second floor by stairs, no elevators. Passengers have little use of the waiting room (city residents arrive directly to the train, and there are very few transit ones), which is why exhibitions, fairs or concerts are sometimes held there.
Due to the central location of the ticket offices, the station has two foyers on either side of the ticket office, two exits to the city and two exits to trains. The suburban hall has a separate exit to the city and to trains. For access to the second platform there is an underground passage, which is often closed, since the number of arriving and departing trains allows you to get by only the first route. In order to ensure safety, all inputs are equipped with metal detector frames, but not all doors are constantly open. The entrance to the suburban hall from the side of the city opens an hour and a half before the departure of electric trains, simultaneously with the suburban ticket offices. The main entrances to the station work in turn - one of the two entrances is officially repaired for several weeks, although no visible work is carried out. Exits to trains, as well as a gate that allows you to bypass the station, open only after the announcement of the arrival of the train and the beginning of boarding and disembarkation.
Historical Incidents
In the station of Tomsk station on the buffet table there is a bust of I. S. Turgenev . Everyone who knows the famous writer from portraits will immediately recognize him in the bust, and with what indignation his heart will boil with another admirer, I. S., when he sees what is the matter. The bust depicting I. S. Turgenev is just a bottle filled with Beckmann's vodka. Suppose it would be a pleasure for another lover to drink “from Turgenev,” but still, it seems to us, vodka breeders go too far in their ingenious inventions.
