Yuri Dmitrievich Dmitrevsky ( May 9, 1920 , Cherepovets - January 26, 2001 , St. Petersburg ) - Soviet and Russian geographer , Africanist , hydrograph, specialist in economic and physical geography, country and geography historian, doctor of geographical sciences, professor. The creator of the school of African geographers. Honorary Member of the Russian Geographical Society , Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation (1993). Member and disabled World War II .

Biography

Born on May 9, 1920 in the city of Cherepovets ( Cherepovets province , now the Vologda region ), in the family of a doctor. Soon after his birth, the family moved to Pushkin, Leningrad Region , where he spent his childhood and he graduated from high school. He graduated from the Faculty of Geography of Leningrad State University , graduate school. He participated in the Great Patriotic War, fought on the Leningrad and Volkhov fronts, lost his leg. By distribution, from 1949 to 1964 he taught at the Vologda State Pedagogical Institute . Then, at Leningrad State University, Faculty of Geography, Leningrad State Institute. A.I. Herzen , Financial and Economic Institute .

Children: from their first marriage with Tamara Alekseevna Besedina - daughter Marina Yuryevna Dmitrevskaya ; from the second marriage with Natalya Fedorovna Ohapkina (Dmitrevskaya) - daughter Vera Yuryevna Tylik (Dmitrevskaya).

Rewards

He was awarded the medals "For Military Merit", "For the Defense of Leningrad", "For the Victory over Germany", "Twenty Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945."
Gold medal named after P.P. Semenov (1970).
