Biography
Vasily Leontyev was born on January 11, 1917 in the village of Staropyshminsk (now the Sverdlovsk Region ). He graduated from the school factory apprenticeship and Sverdlovsk flying club. In 1937, Leontiev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1938, he graduated from the Perm Military Aviation Pilot School. He participated in the battles of the Soviet-Finnish war . From June 1941 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. In battles he was wounded twice [1] .
By the end of the war, Senior Lieutenant Vasily Leontyev was the deputy commander of the squadron of the 24th Bomber Aviation Regiment of the 241st Bomber Aviation Division of the 3rd Bomber Air Corps of the 16th Air Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . By that time, he had made 165 combat sorties for aerial reconnaissance and bombardment of clusters of military equipment and enemy manpower, his important objects, inflicting heavy losses on him [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 15, 1946 for "skillful execution of command tasks and courage and heroism shown in bombing the enemy, Lieutenant Vasily Leontyev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union and awarded the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal" [ 1] .
In 1948, in the rank of captain Leontyev was transferred to the reserve. He lived and worked in Moscow . He died on June 14, 1985, was buried in the Nikolo-Arkhangelsk cemetery of Moscow [1] .
Freeman of the town of Berezovsky, Sverdlovsk Region. He was awarded two orders of Lenin, orders of the Red Banner , World War 1-st degree and the Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
A street in Staropyshminsk is named after Leontyev [1] .
