Lyanik, Maryu

Maryu Länik was born on September 7, 1957 in the Estonian town of Otepää.

She began to sing from the mid-1970s. in his hometown of Otepää . The path to the stage for Maryu began during her studies at the Tallinn Pedagogical Institute. As a soloist of the student ensemble, she was noticed by music lovers and critics. Leading Estonian youth groups offer cooperation. She begins to record on the radio, participate in music television programs. The first concerts were given in Moscow, Kiev, Leningrad, Riga and other cities. In 1977-1979 she sang in the ensemble Nustago (Otepää) and in the trio Sarm. At the same time, she participated as a soloist in the Van Toomas Orchestra at the Tallinn Philharmonic.

Maryu Ljanik has performed in many Estonian bands: Mobile , Music Safe (1981), Vitamin (1981-1984), Contact , Dialog . In 1984, Maryu Länik became the soloist of the Mahavok ensemble (1984-86), with her arrival, “Makhavok” turned into her accompanying ensemble, which was to some extent connected with the transition of the group to professional work in the Philharmonic of the ESSR. Mostly sentimental hits and pop songs were performed. She participated as a soloist in several international competitions, including Intertalent and Vilnius Towers. Her tours took place in Finland, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia and Cuba. In 1985, she participated with the Mahavok group in Moscow at the World Festival of Youth and Students in Gorky Park.

Most of the repertoire of Maryu Länik is composed by songs written by Soviet composer Mik Targo, the head of the Mahavok ensemble, but the singer’s creative luggage contains works by such authors as David Tukhmanov, Ivar Myannik, Igor Sarukhanov, Lauri Laubre, Kim Breitburg, Heini Vaikma, Vladimir Matetskiy. Poetry for songs by Maryu Lyanik was written by poets such as Yuri Kurgem, Larisa Rubalskaya, Reet Lynna, Andrey Lukyanov, Leelo Tungal and of course the two great Soviet songwriters Mikhail Tanich and Heldur Karmo.

• In 1986, after the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, she visited the Mahavok group in Ukraine, where thousands of people, including those from Estonia, participated in rescue operations. Workers were on an emotional upswing after these concerts.
• Maryu Ljanik in 2001-2005 studied at Tallinn University and received a bachelor's degree with honors, and then a master's degree with honors in culture.
• She was a member of the Tallinn City Assembly from the Reform Party.

Single. The first husband is Mati Vaarmann (divorce), a brother of Anne Veski . The second husband is the composer Lauri Laubre.

In 1988, together with composer Mik Targo and songwriter Alexei Olgin, she received the USSR State Prize for performing the song “Soldiers Walk on the Ground” at the festival of the soldier’s song “When Soldiers Sing 88”.
