Biography

Descended from the jarud family. The son of the Mongol commander Uryankhadai (1201-1727) and the grandson of the famous Subedei (1176-1,248), the closest ally of Genghis Khan .

In 1253 Aju accompanied his father Uryanhadaya during the conquest of the state of Dali . In October 1257 Uryanhadai, at the head of the 30-thousand Mongolian army, invaded North Vietnam . Aju was with his father. In November-December, the Mongols went through the whole country and took Hanoi at the end of the year, but even because of the intolerable climate and resistance, the Vietnamese retreated without a fight after nine days. In January 1258 Uryanhadai left Vietnam .

Since 1258, Uryankhadai and his son Aju participated in the war with the Southern Song empire . Aju commanded a separate tumen (10 thousand troops) as part of his father’s Mongolian army. Within two years, Uryankhadai and Ajou conquered 13 cities and destroyed 40 thousand Chinese.

After the death of Munke-Khan, Aju and his father Uryankhadai supported Khan Kublai Khan in his internecine struggle for power with another brother Arik-Buga .

In 1260, after joining the Mongolian Khan's throne, Khubilai Khan, Ajou became one of his closest associates. In 1261, on the orders of the new khan, Ajou was appointed commander-in-chief of the Mongolian army in the war with the South Chinese Empire, Song . In 1261 - 1275 Aju inflicted a series of defeats on Chinese troops. In 1275, Khan Kubilai dismissed Ajou from command and appointed him as the successor to the talented commander Bayan , who successfully completed the conquest of southern China.

In 1276, Khubilai Khan ordered Aja to lead the defense of the Beshbalyk fortress in Uyguria from attacks by Khaidu , grandson of the second Mongol khan Ugedei .
