Calliopia came from a well-off and respectable family. Hezihius was his father, and Peanyus his son.

In 356/357, Kalliopius served as consul of Bithynia . In 363, he conducted an investigation into the activities of merchants in Antioch .

It is known that Calliopius was a pagan.
