Carolina del Principe ( Spanish: Carolina del Príncipe ), also known as Carolina [1] - a city and municipality in northern Colombia , in the Antioquia department. It is part of the North Antioquia subregion .

Content
History
Before the arrival of the Spaniards in the territory of the municipality, the Indian tribe es: Nutabes lived. The settlement from which the city later grew was founded on January 1, 1787 . The municipality of Carolina del Principe was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1814 .
Geographical position
The city is located in the central part of the department, in the highlands of Central Cordillera , near the Miraflores reservoir, at a distance of approximately 55 kilometers northeast of Medellin , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 1761 meters above sea level [2] .
The municipality of Carolina del Principe borders in the north with the municipalities of Angostur and Guadalupe , in the west and south with the municipality of Santa Rosa de Osos , in the east with the municipality of Gomez Plata . The area of the municipality is 166 km² [3] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2012 was 3,734 people [4] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men accounted for 49.2% of the population of Carolina del Principe, women - respectively, 50.8%. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 99.4% of the city's population; blacks , mulattoes and Raisals - 0.6% [5] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 90%.
Economics
The economy of Carolina del Principe is based on agricultural production , lumber production and tourism .
62.6% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 28.5% are service enterprises, 8.1% are industrial enterprises, 0.8% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [5] .
