The plant was discovered by Holger Windeløv, founder of Tropica, near , east of Havana , Cuba .
Micranthemum callitrichoides grows among large stones, in places where water reaches 50 cm in the dry season and up to 1 m in rainy periods, it is resistant to strong currents. It forms dense thickets.
The lighting required for the plant is at least 0.7-0.8 W / l ( fluorescent lamp ). The required content of carbon dioxide is 10-15 mg / l.
M. callitrichoides does not like stagnant and old water. Water pH required = 6.5-7
