Geography
Located on the north shore of St. Lawrence Island , 63 km southeast of Gambella . According to the US Census Bureau, the area of the settlement is 15.8 km², of which land is 15.8 km² and water surface is 0 km².
Population
According to the 2000 census, the population of the city was 643 people [2] . Racial Composition: Native Americans - 95.33%; white - 4.35%; Asians - 0.16%; representatives of other races - 0.16%.
The proportion of people under the age of 18 is 36.1%; from 18 to 24 years old - 13.2%; from 25 to 44 years old - 28.6%; from 45 to 64 years old - 16.5% and persons over 65 years old - 5.6%. The average age of the population is 26 years. For every 100 females there are 101.6 males; for every 100 females age 18 and over - 115.2 males.
Of the 145 households, 55.2% raised children under the age of 18 years, 49.7% were married couples living together, 15.9% were women without husbands, 21.4% did not have a family. 16.6% of the total number of households at the time of the census lived independently, while 0.7% were single elderly people aged 65 years and older. On average, 4.43 people lead a household, and the average family size is 5.22 people.
The average income on a joint venture is $ 23,438; median household income is $ 27,917. Median per capita income is $ 7,725.
Most of the population speaks Yitic languages .

Economics and Transport
Savungs economy is based on subsistence farming: hunting for walruses and other pinnipeds , fishing, etc. The city is served by Savung Airport, which takes regular flights from Nome .
