Three-leaved Strelolist , or Three-parted Strelolist ( lat. Sagittāria trifōlia ) - a species of plants of the genus Strelolist ( Sagittaria ) of the family Chastuhovye ( Alismataceae ).

Habitat and habitat

The general range of the species is Europe , Central Asia , the south of the Russian Far East , Asia Minor , Iran , the east of Mongolia , Japan , China , India [2] , is noted in the USA [3] . It grows on the banks of ponds, the outskirts of marshes [4] .

Botanical Description

Perennial plant up to 1 m high. The stem is leafless, upright, submerged in water only the lower part. The airy leaves are swept, their narrow-lanceolate lobes are long and thinly pointed.

Inflorescence is a simple or branched brush. Flowers are arranged three in a whorl. Female - in the lower whorls, on short pedicels, male - in the upper, on long pedicels. The petals are all white. Achenes are wide-triangular, with a curved nose and a wide uneven serrated edge. Flowering in June - July.

Economic Significance and Application

 
Tubers

Tubers are eaten boiled and dried. Leaves are used in folk medicine . In a number of East countries it is grown for commercial purposes [5] .

Security

It is included in the Red Books of the following constituent entities of the Russian Federation: Buryatia , Irkutsk Oblast , Kalmykia , Omsk Oblast . Also included in the Red Book of Armenia [6] .
