Content

Club career

Gilardino began his career at Piacenza in the 1999/00 season. During this season, he spent 17 matches in the league and scored 3 goals. The next season he spent in Verona , which bought it for 5 million euros, scoring only 5 goals in two seasons at the club, having won 39 matches in the league.

Parma

His career in the international arena began in 2002, after he was sold to Parma for 12 million euros, satisfying the request of the former Verona coach Cesare Prandelli . Gilardino scored 5 goals for the first season in Parma and 23 for the second. This made him second in the 2003/04 season on Serie A. The next season, he repeated this achievement, again scoring 23 goals. In all, he scored 50 goals for Parma in 96 matches in Serie A.

Milan

On July 17, 2005, Gilardino was sold to Milan for 24 million euros. He scored 17 goals for Milan in the championship, but could not prove himself in the Champions League , not having scored a single goal in 12 matches. The next season in the Champions League, he also performed poorly, scoring only 2 goals. However, one of the goals helped “Milan” to win in the second leg of the semifinal victory over “ Manchester United ” 3: 0. On May 25, 2008, Fiorentina sports director Pantaleo Corvino confirmed that an agreement was reached with Milan to acquire Gilardino, and on May 28 Gilardino transferred to Fiorentina for 15 million euros, signing a five-year contract. Fiorentina's head coach Cesare Prandelli used to work with Gilardino at Parma . Gilardino scored the first goal for violets in the first match of the third qualifying round of the Champions League 2008/09 against Slavia . That match ended with a score 2: 0, on the account of Gilardino the second goal. On August 31, Gilardino made his debut in Serie A with violets in the Juventus match, where he scored a goal in the 89th minute, snatching a 1-1 draw. In the first match of the Champions League group stage in the match with Lyon , Gilardino scored two goals in the first half, but Lyon was able to recoup thanks to the goals of Frederic Picionne and Karim Benzema . On August 31, 2012, the player moved to Bologna on a one-year lease basis [5] [6] [7] . International Career

Gilardino played for the Italian national team at the 2004 Athens Olympics, winning a bronze medal. He also won with the national team at the European Youth Championship in 2004.

Gilardino was a member of the Italian national team at the 2006 World Cup . He played the first two matches, scoring the US team , and replaced in the semifinal match with Germany , in extra time hitting the goal frame and giving an assist to Alessandro Del Piero , who set the final score 2-0.

On October 17, 2007, Gilardino took the captain's armband with Daniele De Rossi when he was replaced in a friendly match with South Africa , which ended in a 2-0 victory for Italy. Coaching career

Personal life

On July 5, 2009, Gilardino married Alice Bregoli in Santa Margherita Ligure , in the province of Genoa . The couple has three daughters: Ginevra (born 02.03.2008), Gemma (born 19.03.2011) and Julia (born 04.09.2012) [15] .
