Governors
Governors of the Northwest Territory
For almost the entire 15-year history of the North-West Territory, it was led by only one governor - Arthur St. Clair . On November 22, 1802, he was removed from office by US President Thomas Jefferson . The new governor was not appointed and his duties, until taking office as the first governor of Ohio Edward Tiffin , temporarily performed by the Secretary of the Territory Charles Willing Byrd [7] . The territory of Ohio did not exist, the state of Ohio is considered the successor of the North-West Territory.

Ohio State Governors
Ohio State on March 1, 1803. Since then, the governors have been 62 people, six of whom were re-elected.
According to the first state constitution adopted in 1802, the governor was elected for two years; his term of office was limited to six years in any 8 years, starting on the first Monday of December after the elections [10] . The 1851 constitution removed the limit on the number of terms, and the inauguration was postponed to the second Monday of January of the year after the election [9] . In 1908, Ohio passed to the elections in even years, and therefore the term of office of the governor, elected in 1905, was increased by one year [11] . In 1957, an amendment to the Constitution was adopted, according to which the term of office increased to four years with the right of one re-election, and the candidate received a new right four years after his second term in a row to the governor [12] .
If the place of the governor becomes vacant, it is taken by the vice-governor of the state. In case the post of the vice-governor is also vacant, and. about. the governor becomes the chairman of the senate [13] . If the posts in both offices became vacant in the first 20 months of the term, then snap elections are scheduled for the next even year [14] . Since 1974, the governor and the vice-governor are elected one by one; before that, they could be (and often were) members of different parties [9] .
