Biographical information

  • 1955 - graduated from Orsk Pedagogical Institute.
  • 1956 - 1966 - Worked at the Institute of Metal Physics of the Ural Scientific Center of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
  • 1966 - began working in Donetsk at the Physical-Technical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (now the Donetsk Physical-Technical Institute named after A. A. Galkin, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine ).

Scientific activity

Zavadsky’s scientific works concern solid-state physics. In particular, he investigated the influence of a strong magnetic field and high pressure , especially phase transformations in magnetic materials.

Founder of the scientific school of physics of phase transformations in extreme conditions.

Zavadsky discovered the phenomenon of irreversible magnetic field induction of new states “hidden” in the negative pressure region, discovered metastable heterophase states in ferroelectrics , investigated the features of magnetic ordering and phase transitions in magnets with several order parameters and phase transitions in crystals with positional disorder.

Prizes

  • 1975 - Kirill Sinelnikov Prize of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (together with Alexander Galkin ) for the study “Induction of a new state of matter by a strong magnetic field”.
