Biography
Gustav Heghi was born on November 13, 1876 in the city of Rikkenbach near Zurich in the family of the priest Gustav Heghi and his wife Babette Benz. In 1879, the Hegi family moved to the Toss River Valley, where Gustav’s childhood passed. Since 1891, Gustav Hegy studied at the gymnasium in Winterthur , where he met with the botanist Robert Keller . He entered the University of Zurich, where he listened to the lectures of Professor Hans Schinz , in 1900 he graduated with a master's degree.
Since 1902, Hegi worked as a curator in the Munich Botanical Garden. In 1905, he received a Ph.D. at the University of Munich , since 1910 he was an associate professor.
In 1910, Hegi was appointed Swiss Consul in Munich , since 1920 he was Consul General. In 1926, due to illness, Gustav Heghi was forced to leave diplomacy, and a year later he resigned from the post of professor at the university.
On April 23, 1932, Gustav Heghi passed away.
