Despite the fact that the official history of the installation of Christmas trees has been going on since 1933, the first time it was dressed up back in 1931 [1] . Then for these purposes, the workers chose a 6-meter balsamic fir and decorated it with cranberries , paper garlands and tin cans . The next time the Christmas tree was dressed up only in 1933, and since then the ceremony has been held annually [2] .

The Christmas tree is set in late November or early December. Recently, its ignition has been broadcast nationwide in NBC 's Christmas at Rockefeller Center , shown on Wednesday following Thanksgiving [3] . The selection of Christmas trees is carried out by the chief florist of the Rockefeller Center Eric Pose ( Eng. Erik Pauzé ) [4] . Selection is conducted throughout the year in many states, including Connecticut , Vermont , New York and New Jersey . The minimum requirements for the dimensions of the tree are 20 meters in height and 10.5 in width. For its transportation, a special sliding trailer is used, which is designed for a length of up to 38 meters [5] . Opposite the G-Building, the Christmas tree is mounted on a steel pin and secured with four braces . Its lighting goes from 30 000 multi - colored LEDs and about 8 kilometers of wires [6] . Since 2004, a star with a diameter of almost 3 meters and a weight of 250 kg manufactured by Swarovski has been installed on the top of the Christmas tree [7] .
