The military-historical complex named after N. D. Gulaev is a museum, one of the main attractions in the city of Aksay , Rostov Region . Opened in 1998. Located on the territory of the nature reserve of regional significance " Mukhina Balka ", which is also a monument of regional significance [1] .

It bears the name of Nikolai Dmitrievich Gulaev - Colonel General of Aviation , twice Hero of the Soviet Union and the third of the Soviet aces in the number of downed planes. This name was given to the museum for a reason: Gulaev himself was a native of the village of Aksayskaya.
The complex has an extensive collection of weapons, from artillery to airplanes and missiles [2] .
The museum consists of two main parts. The first is “The in-depth command post of the North Caucasus Military District ”. The command post is located deep underground and has many labyrinths and communications. It was built in the 1960s in case the outbreak of World War III [2] .
The second part is an open area with an exhibition of samples of military equipment of the Soviet and Russian army of the 20th century. Arms from the beginning of the 20th century (as during the Russo-Japanese War ) to the anti-terrorist operation in the Chechen Republic are presented on the museum’s sites [1] .
Among the exhibits of the open exhibition are armored vehicles ( T-72 , BMP-2 ), artillery and anti - aircraft guns, missile models, floating engineering tools, aircraft ( AN-2 , MiG-23 ), armored tractors, etc. [3] .
The exhibition of military equipment in the open air is replenished annually. In the near future it is planned to create here one of the most voluminous expositions of domestic military equipment and weapons of the 20th century in southern Russia [1] .
The complex is located in the central part of the regional nature conservation reserve “ Mukhina Balka ”, a favorite vacation spot for local residents [1] .
The military historical complex is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week [4] .
