The resident population according to the 2010 All-Russian Census is 42 people [3] , in the village there are 2 streets, a public garden and 7 garden associations [4] . Until 2006, Kotovo was part of the Ateptsevo rural district [5] [6] .

The village is located in the central part of the region, in the upper Goryunovka River, which later flows into the Istya River (the right tributary of the Nara River), about 3 km south of Naro-Fominsk [7] , the center is 182 m high [8] . The nearest settlements are Schekutino , 1 km to the south, Elagino , 1.7 km to the east, and Latvian , 1 km to the north.
