Slender snakehead [1] ( lat. Ophisops elegans ) is a species of lizards of the family of real lizards .

Small slender lizards. There are no separate eyelids, the central part of the lower eyelid is transparent, like a snake .

Distribution and habitat
On the territory of the countries of the former USSR it is found in Transcaucasia ( Azerbaijan , Armenia , eastern Georgia , perhaps there is a population in the Russian foothills of Chechnya and Ingushetia ). It also inhabits the southeastern regions of the Balkan Peninsula, a number of islands of the Aegean and eastern parts of the Mediterranean Sea, Western Asia to Pakistan, and Northwest India.
In the foothills of the snakehead lives on dry slopes, overgrown with sparse grass and shrubs. Hiding from enemies in the cracks between stones, abandoned burrows of small animals, clumps of grass.
Nutrition
It feeds on spiders and small insects (ants, cicadas, bugs).
Reproduction and development
Matrimonial games in May — June. In clutch of 3-6 eggs, can do up to 3 clutches per season. Goes to winter in October. Becomes mature at the age of about 2 years.

It is listed in the Red Book of Russia. Catching in our country is prohibited.
