Belmira ( Spanish: Belmira ) - a city and municipality in the north of Colombia , in the department of Antioquia . It is part of the North Antioquia subregion .

Content
History
The settlement, from which the city later grew, was founded on February 26, 1757 . The municipality of Belmira was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1814 .
Geographical position
The city is located in the central part of the department, in the highlands of Central Cordillera , at a distance of approximately 34 kilometers north-northwest (NNW) from Medellin , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 2694 meters above sea level [1] .
The municipality of Belmira borders in the north with the municipality of San Jose de la Montagna , in the west with the municipalities of Liborina , Olaya and Sopetran , in the south-west with the municipality of San Jeronimo , in the south with the municipality of San Pedro de Los Milagros , in the east - with the municipalities of Santa Rosa de Osos and Entreririos . The area of the municipality is 296 km² [2] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2012 was 6,590 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men made up 51.9% of the Belmira population, women - 48.1%, respectively. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 79.2% of the city's population; blacks , mulattoes and Raysals - 20.8% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 87%.
Economics
The economy of Belmira is based on dairy farming , potato growing and aquaculture .
47.1% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 40.8% are service enterprises, 8.9% are industrial enterprises, 3.2% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
