Valmet Corporation ( Finnish. Valtion Metallitehtaat - Russian state metalworking ) was established in 1951, when the Finnish government decided to combine the industries involved in the implementation of the plan of reparations to the Soviet Union . Factories produced cardboard and paper machines , aircraft , automobiles , diesel engines , locomotives , trams , trolleybuses , weapons and household appliances. In 1999, Valmet's plants merged with Rauma Oy into Metso Corporation.

Automotive

Valmet Automotive (formerly Saab-Valmet) is a Finnish car manufacturer. It was founded in 1968 jointly by Valmet and the Swedish Saab - Scania . Valmet Automotive is engaged in contract manufacturing [1] and has made cars commissioned by Saab Automobile , Talbot , Renault , Lada , Opel and Porsche .

Weapons

The VKT rifle factory was merged with Valmet in 1951. Among the designed assault rifles and assault rifles are the Rk 62 , M76, M78, M82 and Rk 95 Tp .

Aviation

The aviation units were involved in the assembly and production of licensed training attack aircraft Fouga CM.170 Magister and Hawker Siddeley Hawk , Saab Draken fighters . Following the closure of the Tampere plant in the 1960s, production began in Kuorevesi .

Following the privatization of Valmet in 1996, the conglomerate’s aircraft production was allocated to Patria’s defense division Patria and focused on assembling F / A-18 Hornet fighters and NHI NH90 helicopters . The plant also participated in the development and manufacture of parts for Airbus , in particular spoilers for the A380 .

Paper machines

After World War II, the capacities of the Valtion tykkitehdas cannon factory and Tampella AB were redesigned to produce paper machines.

Shipbuilding

In the 1980s, Valmet shipyards were merged with Wärtsilä shipyards, but after the bankruptcy of the shipbuilding company in 1989, they are now part of STX Finland

Rolling stock

Trolleybus

From 1948 to 1960, Valmet launched 52 trolleybuses - 23 for Helsinki and 29 for Tampere. [2]

The tractors were manufactured by Valmet tractor, in Brazil and Finland, now known under the Valtra brand (in English) owned by AGCO (in English) .
