Name Origin

The name Mugun probably comes from the Buryat Mengen - silver , money [3] .

According to Stanislav Gurulev , this toponym is formed from the Buryat Muu - bad and Mr. - depth , that is, poor depth [4] .

History

The settlement was founded in 1896 [5] or 1898 [3] .

Its founders were brothers Cyril, Fedor and Eustathius Vorontsov, natives of the Gomel region of Belarus . The bulk of the villagers were Belarusian and Ukrainian immigrants.

Immigrants originally lived in dugouts and small houses. They carried out active forest cutting for agricultural land. Later, immigrants built solid houses. Residents of the village were actively engaged in crop production: they grew wheat, rye, potatoes, hemp, flax, vegetables; as well as livestock. Women engaged in various crafts, in particular weaving. Later, a brick factory was built in the village, working on a local clay deposit, as well as a mill and an oil mill, which belonged to a resident of Mugun named Lugovets [3] .
