Karl Reinhold Sahlberg ( Fin. Carl Reinhold Sahlberg ; 1779 - 1860 ) is a Finnish biologist ( entomologist and botanist ), one of the founders of biology in Finland.

Short Biography
At the age of sixteen he became a student at the Royal Academy of Abo , where he was most interested in lectures on natural sciences . While still a student, in 1799 he began teaching, and after graduating from the academy in 1801, practiced for some time in the countryside, then entered as an assistant in the botanical garden.
In 1802 he received a Ph.D. Since 1804 he taught natural sciences , and then studied medicine and was appointed an adjunct in medicine and a demonstrator in botany ; then secretary of the Medical College.
In 1818 he became an ordinary (full-time) professor of natural sciences and economics. He made several scientific trips to St. Petersburg and to various provinces of Sweden .
After the great fire in Abo in 1827 , as a result of which the Royal Academy suffered very much, he organized the teaching of biological sciences at the University of Helsingfors , which became the successor to the Academy. He bought new biological collections for the university museum, took part in the organization of the botanical garden.
After retiring, he was in charge of museums and the Botanical Garden in Abo (Turku) .
Salberg's scientific works deal mainly with entomology .
The the University of Helsinki houses a collection of insects collected by Salberg.
In honor of Salberg are named:
- Sahlbergiini Kistner , 1993 - tribe staphilinid ;
- Cicindela sahlbergii Fischer von Waldheim , 1824 - species of racehorse beetles from the Carabidae family ;
- Tetraponera sahlbergii Forel , 1887 - a species of ants from the subfamily Pseudomyrmecinae .
