Biography
Alexander Levin was born on October 9, 1922 in the village of Stary Chirchim (now the Kameshkir district of the Penza region ). He graduated from high school. In October 1941, Levin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . Since 1943, he graduated from accelerated courses of political workers [1] .
By September 1943, Senior Lieutenant Alexander Levin was a battalion commander of the 957th Infantry Regiment of the 309th Infantry Division of the 40th Army of the Voronezh Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper . On the night of September 23-24, 1943, Levin, at the head of an assault group, crossed the Dnieper south of Kiev . Having taken up positions on the northwestern outskirts of the village of Balyko-Schuchinka , the Levin group repelled seventeen German counterattacks, holding out until the main forces arrived. In those battles, Levin personally destroyed an armored car and a large number of enemy soldiers and officers, he himself was wounded, but continued to fight [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 23, 1943, Senior Lieutenant Alexander Levin was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
In 1945, Levin graduated from the military-political school with an accelerated course. In 1948, with the rank of lieutenant colonel, he was transferred to the reserve. He lived in the city of Spassk in the Penza region , after graduating from the Higher Party School under the Central Committee of the CPSU, he first worked in the CPSU District Committee, then taught at vocational school [1] .
He was also awarded the orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and the Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
In honor of Levin, a bust was installed in Bednodemyanovsk [1] .
