Career

In 1995, as a student at Ohio University, Timashev, together with his classmate Andrei Baronov, created an online store specializing in the delivery and sale of computer components from the United States to Russia. A year later, partners develop several utilities for Windows NT administrators.

Soon, the revenue from the sale of these utilities exceeds the income of the online store, and Timashev decides to focus on developing management tools for Windows NT. To this end, in 1997 he founded the company Aelita Software in the USA, whose main development center is located in Russia [11] . In 2004, the business was sold to Quest Software for $ 115 million. Timashev holds the position of Quest CEO for Microsoft solutions, however, at the beginning of 2005 he decides to leave the company [12] [13] .

In 2005, Timashev met with the growing popularity of virtualization technology and decided to try to apply the experience of developing utilities to virtual infrastructure. In 2006, in partnership with Baronov, Timashev founded the company Veeam Software (from the English VM, virtual machine - virtual machine) [14] [15] [16] . Initially, the company specializes in developing software products that manage the VMware virtual infrastructure. In 2007, Veeam released its first programs, Monitor and Reporter, and a year later, a backup tool for virtualized environments, called Veeam Backup & Replication, appeared. This product becomes the flagship in the company's lineup and allows it to enter the backup market [17] [18] . According to the results of 2015, the company's revenue amounted to 474 million dollars, the staff totaled more than 2000 people [19] .

Venture Investment

Timashev and Baronov are actively investing in the development of Russian IT startups . In 2005, they created a venture fund , named after the first letters of the creators - ABRT. The fund invests in companies at an early stage of growth, and also provides assistance to software-oriented Western markets with development centers in Russia and the CIS countries [20] . In 2007, ABRT and one of the largest European venture capital funds Mangrove Capital Partners initiated a joint partnership program for investing in technology startups in Russia and Eastern and Central Europe [21] [22] .
