History
The currently operated office building of Azersu JSC is located on Moskovsky Prospekt, in the vicinity of the metro station January 20 . Car traffic in this area is greatly complicated by traffic jams [4] . In addition, the company needs additional office space. In connection with these circumstances, it was decided to build a new, more spacious building on the undeveloped expanses of Heydar Aliyev Avenue, which is the main place for the sale of futuristic high-rise buildings in Baku and claims to become the business center of the capital. Due to the fact that this avenue is built up mainly by skyscrapers with complex architectural design, it was important to choose a building design that would successfully combine with the rest of the buildings.
A tender was held among architectural companies to select a project for the new office building of Azersu JSC. On August 9, 2012, it became known that the Korean company Heerim Architects won, having proposed a building design in the form of a drop of water [5] , thematically interconnected with a nearby skyscraper (see “Interesting Facts”).
On March 15, 2013, another Korean company, Halla E&C, was chosen as the developer [3] . At the same time, Heerim Architects got the opportunity to manage the construction itself (CM - construction management) [5] . In November 2013, because of the fence of the construction site, the first floors of the Azersu Office Tower began to appear [6] .
Since 2016, the implementation and construction of the project has been transferred to ALKE Inshaat Senayi ve Tijaret [7] . Currently, work is underway on the interior lining of the building and the completion of work.
Project
The office building of Azersu JSC was built in the form of a drop of water, thereby reflecting the main activity of the company and the proximity of the Caspian Sea. The cost of the project amounted to 120 million US dollars. Funds for construction were allocated from the state budget [2] .
Location
The building is located in Baku on Heydar Aliyev Avenue, and another large facility (also proposed by Heerim Architects) is located in the neighborhood - the SOCAR tower skyscraper.
Interesting Facts
The 40-story SOCAR tower located next door represents the movement of fire. Azersu Tower in the form of a drop of water, not only reflects the kind of activity of the company's staff, which is located in it, but also successfully combines with the fiery theme of the neighboring building. Thus, the symbols of water and fire embodied in architectural forms appeared in the neighborhood on Heydar Aliyev Avenue.
