Small eruptions [1] , or tops [1] ( lat. Ixobrychus ) are a genus of waterbirds from the heron family of the stork type .

Description
Small bitterns are the smallest representatives of the order of ciconiiformes, their body length is only 35–38 cm. Plumage of ocher and red tones. This color perfectly masks the birds in the coastal thickets of reeds and cattail , especially dry, and in tall grass. They keep secretly, in case of danger, they hid and take a defensive posture, stretching themselves vertically and standing still.
Area
Distributed in temperate and tropical zones of all continents. They settle in separate pairs in thickets along the banks of reservoirs, unlike most other herons, they do not form colonies. Three species live in Russia: a small bittern (top), Amur top and Chinese top [1] .
Power
They feed on small fish, frogs , insects , mollusks .
Reproduction
Nests are built in reed beds or in tall grass, sometimes on bushes and trees. In laying 3-9 eggs. Both parents incubate for about 20 days.

- Ixobrychus flavicollis - Black gyroscope , Southern , Southeastern and partly East Asia, Australia, New Guinea and part of Melanesia ;
- Ixobrychus involucris - Motley spin top (English) , South America (except Patagonia );
- Ixobrychus minutus - Small Bittern , or top , Europe (except north), Central Asia , Middle East , West India , Sub-Saharan Africa , Madagascar ;
- Ixobrychus sinensis - Chinese Top , East , South and Southeast Asia ;
- Ixobrychus sturmii - Serospinny top , sub- Saharan Africa ;
