Biography
Simon Latukhin was born on February 16, 1909 in the village of Chubola-Navolok (now - the Primorsky district of the Arkhangelsk region ). After graduating from elementary school, he worked in the parent farm, then in a sawmill. In 1939 - 1940 he served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. He participated in the battles of the Soviet-Finnish war . Demobilized, he worked on a collective farm in his homeland. In July 1941, Latukhin was re-drafted into the army. Since August of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. In 1942, he graduated from junior lieutenant courses. He was wounded twice in battles. By July 1944, Senior Lieutenant Semyon Latukhin commanded a mortar company of the 1083th Infantry Regiment of the 312th Infantry Division of the 91st Infantry Corps of the 69th Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . Distinguished during the Belarusian operation [1] .
On July 18, 1944, the Latukhin battery destroyed 7 machine gun points, 4 batteries of mortars and about 80 enemy soldiers and officers, southwest of Kovel , which contributed to the successful offensive of the rifle units. On July 20, the battery crossed the Western Bug near the village of Dorohusk east of Helm . The next day, she took an active part in repelling a number of German counterattacks, destroying about 220 enemy soldiers and officers and 3 artillery pieces. After the death of the battalion commander, Latukhin replaced him and organized the reflection of another counterattack. In hand-to-hand combat, he was seriously injured [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 27, 1945 for "courage and heroism shown at the front of the struggle against the German invaders," senior lieutenant Semyon Latukhin was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 7004 [ 1] .
In 1946, with the rank of captain, Latukhin was sacked. He lived in his native village, worked on a collective farm , and for a long time led him. He was elected as a deputy of the district council. He died on November 23, 1987, and was buried in the village of Chubola-Navolok [1] .
He was also awarded the orders of Alexander Nevsky , World War 1 degree, Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
